BLUE EYES IS THE YOUNG IDEALIST. AN IMPRESSIONALBE TEENAGER, EAGER FOR ADVENTURE, HE IS EASILY SWAYED BY KOBA’S FEAR-MONGERING. AND BLUE EYES IS ASHAMED WHEN HE LEARNS HIS TRUST HAS BEEN MISPLACED.
KOBA IS THE MIGHTY WARRIOR. HE IS STRONG AND COURAGEOUS IN BATTLE. BUT HIS HEART HAS BEEN HARDENED AGAINST HUMANS. HE SEES TRUST AS NAÏVE AND HOPE AS WEAKNESS. HE IS SINGLE-MINDED IN HIS HUNGER FOR REVENGE.
Cornelia is Caesar’s loving wife and the mother of his children – but also the matriarch of his tribe. She selflessly provides comfort and support that help him lead. She can be stubborn and defiant, but ultimately Caesar admires her common sense and compassion.
Cornelia is Blue Eyes’ mother. She loves her son deeply and recognizes that his stubborn and rebellious qualities are a manifestation of his ferocious loyalty and devotion to family. She depends on Blue Eyes for support and consolation during times of danger and distress.
Although they have limited interaction, Ellie is the Human counterpart to Cornelia. They both have nurturing tendencies and are empathetic toward Apes and Humans alike. Both are also brave and stubborn. Ellie risks her life to help Cornelia recover from complications from her childbirth.
Alexander and Maurice develop a close relationship. Maurice’s calm demeanor and natural curiosity about humans helps him form a bond with the teenage boy in need of a mentor. Over time, they teach each other about the similarities between Apes and Humans.
Caesar is Maurice’s best friend. In captivity, Maurice grew to respect Caesar and admire his intelligence. Together they helped free the Apes and form an advanced society. As Koba seized power and urged the Apes to war, Maurice was imprisoned for his loyalty to Caesar.
Caesar and Cornelia are husband and wife. Initially Caesar finds Cornelia annoying, but during Caesar’s rise to power, Cornelia earns his respect with her compassion toward both Apes and Humans, her knowledge of the outside world, and ultimately, her acquiescence of the king.
Koba has been a loyal friend for many years, but his hatred of Humans puts him at odds with Caesar. Their relationship is a delicate dance of peacekeeper and warrior. Optimist and pragmatist. Hope and fear. Adding to the complexity, Caesar’s impressionable son is Koba’s biggest fan.
Blue Eyes is Caesar’s first son and heir. Caesar is often frustrated by Blue Eyes’ defiant and rebellious behavior. He tries to teach Blue Eyes that his recklessness will get him nowhere – while juggling his responsibilities as husband, father and King.
Maurice was Caesar’s first Ape friend at the shelter and remains his most trusted friend, advisor and confidante. Maurice is a member of Caesar’s council, a moral compass in his marriage to Cornelia, and a tutor of his eldest son and heir, Blue Eyes.
Malcolm is one of the leaders of the Humans who remain in the city. Caesar is Malcolm’s first Ape friend. In many ways, they are counterparts – both brave leaders, husbands and fathers who seek a peaceful coexistence. And each risks his life by trusting the other.
Dreyfus does not trust Caesar. He doesn’t respect Caesar’s intelligence or sovereignty. And he doesn’t view Apes on the same level as humans. Moreover, Dreyfus uses fear to galvanize his people against the Apes. To Dreyfus, Caesar is the enemy.
Rocket and Caesar are close but unlikely friends and allies. In captivity, Rocket used to be the Alpha, but Caesar proved to be smarter and took Rocket’s place as the leader. After settling their differences, Rocket accepted his role as Caesar’s trusted lieutenant, friend and advisor.
It’s not easy being the teenage son of the King. Blue Eyes loves and respects his father, but he also resents sharing him with the entire tribe. Blue Eyes finds friendship and mentoring from Koba, who convinces him his father loves Man more than Apes.
Koba is the mentor and honorary uncle of Blue Eyes. From an early age, he has idolized Koba. At first, Blue Eyes is swayed by Koba’s hatred toward the Humans. But eventually he realizes that Koba’s blind rage may be putting his loved ones at risk.
Blue Eyes is the oldest son of Cornelia and Caesar. He is fiercely protective of family and friends, especially his mother, and sometimes he reacts hastily when he feels they are threatened. He has inherited his mother’s stubbornness and defiance.
Alexander is the Human counterpart of Blue Eyes. They are both young, impressionable teens who have complicated relationships with their fathers. As both of their fathers are busy trying to lead their communities, the boys turn elsewhere for mentorship.
Apprehensive at first, Blues Eyes and Malcolm develop a cautious friendship. This friendship is tested when Blue Eyes mistakenly believes Humans are responsible for killing his father. Malcolm may see in Blue Eyes some of the youthful idealism shared by his son.
Blue Eyes and Ash grew up together as best friends and honorary cousins. They would tease each other – but Blue Eyes always had Ash’s back. Although distrust of Humans began to drive a wedge between them, Blue Eyes was devastated when Koba threw Ash to his death.
For years, Koba served Caesar as a trusted advisor and friend. However, he eventually grew contempt for Caesar’s compassion for Humans. Motivated by revenge, and perhaps a desire to be the Alpha, he began planting seeds of revolution with Caesar’s own son, Blue Eyes.
From an early age, Blue Eyes has looked up to Koba as a mentor and honorary uncle. Over time, Koba’s hatred for Humans and desire for revenge is passed on to the impressionable youth, driving a wedge between Blue Eyes and his father, Caesar.
Koba was one of Ash’s teachers. Ash respected Koba’s authority and loyally followed him into battle against the humans. But when Ash defied Koba’s order to avenge Casesar by killing a Human, Koba was enraged and brutally threw Ash to his death.
Dreyfus and Koba have more in common that either would care to admit. Both are aggressive, quick-tempered and use fear to manipulate their followers and gain power. Koba and Dreyfus also share a tragic affliction -- the inability to forgive and move beyond their past.
